Going back to History
Your Loyal TriSec
You all know me here from Four Freedoms Blog. We’re a team of three, and we’ve been writing and posting all the goings-on around us for damn near 20 years in our little corner of the internet. I worked in the tourism industry in my beloved home city of Boston for 7 years, so I bear a grudge. The work was great in the before-time…but then Covid destroyed it. Since “You-know-who” was running the ship in those days, there is still a lot of anger in me. Like many of us, that anger has been mostly unfocused, until now.
Working in History
Due to my long years in the industry in the “Cradle of Liberty”, I have taken much inspiration from our historic forbears in many aspects of my daily life. Perhaps most notably, the year after Covid, I became a Freemason. This post is not in favor nor against the fraternity. In fact, I’d guess that many of you have a negative opinion of the organization thanks to more than two centuries of negative press. Hollywood hasn’t helped us much, either. My thoughts here are unlikely to undo those preconceived notions. But nonetheless, true patriotic Americans do carry some Masonic influence.
Whether you realize it or not, many of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons. Here in Boston we have Sam Adams, Joseph Warren, Benjamin Franklin, and Paul Revere. The Father of our Country was a Freemason, as was his right-hand man, Gilbert du Motier.
Masons remain a somewhat secretive fraternity - but in the modern age, those secrets are there for those motivated to look hard enough for them. Even the Masonic Library in the Grand Lodge of Boston is open to the general public. Although you must be a Master Mason to have borrowing priviledges.
Taking Inspiration
Two hundred and fifty years ago, during the runup to the revolution, communication methods were vastly different. If you remember the history of our founding, several key things came out of my city. The first of these would be the Massachusetts Circular Letter, written in 1738 by Sam Adams and James Otis. This was in opposition to the Townshend Acts, and the letter laid out why the Acts were wrong, and encouraged cooperation among the Colonies to resist the actions of the Crown and Parliament.
But as the situation developed, the Founders realized that a rapid method of communication needed to be found. Paul Revere couldn’t post a missive online, but he could ride a horse, and the Grand Master of the St. Andrews Lodge of Masons in Boston - Dr. Joseph Warren - engaged him as the primary messenger to carry news to and from other centers of resistance.
This led to Committees of Correspondence in each of the resisting colonies. I will quote directly from our friends at Wikipedia in this matter, as their description is rather succinct.
“The committees of correspondence were a collection of American political organizations that sought to coordinate opposition to British Parliament and, later, support for American independence during the American Revolution. The brainchild of Samuel Adams, a Patriot from Boston, the committees sought to establish, through the writing of letters, an underground network of communication among Patriot leaders in the Thirteen Colonies. The committees were instrumental in setting up the First Continental Congress, which convened in Philadelphia in September and October 1774.”
TriSec’s Mission
The goal for my wee little substack is to turn it into a modern version of the Committee of Correspondence. While we are blessed with instant global communication at the mere click of a mouse, we are cursed by the increasingly histrionic “white noise” that surrounds relevant posts. I do intend to keep an eye on the news around this city. I have a few followers here in the Hub of the Universe, and hopefully this information can be shared and re-posted to other states. In turn, I’d ask all of you to consider organizing what’s going on in your part of the world so that it can be easily shared among like-minded individuals.
I did post about a week ago that Freemasons founded this country; it may be up to us to save it. There aren’t many Brethren on Bluesky that I have found. But given the dire state of the nation - OH LORD GOD, IS THERE NO HELP FOR THE WIDOW’S SON??

Excellent newsletter! Glad to be on board.
